This Day in History | Golwalkar Meets Maharaja Hari Singh | Veerappan Killed in Encounter

On October 18, 1947, Madhavrao Sadashivrao Golwalkar, the second Sarsanghchalak of the RSS, met Maharaja Hari Singh of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the state’s merger with India. On October 18, 2004, South India’s infamous sandalwood smuggler Kooj Muniswami Veerappan was killed in a 20-minute encounter. Veerappan, notorious for killing both humans and elephants, began poaching elephants at a young age to sell their tusks.
